Recreating Asia: Visions for a New Century
by Frank-Jurgen Richter
Book Description
This book offers a fascinating insight into how Asia is managing its own political change and governance duties. The book contains chapters from - government, such as Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir, President Arroyo of the Philippines and Japan's Cabinet Minister Heizo Takenaka; - business leaders, such as Sony's Chairman Nobuyuki Idei, Siemens's Heinrich von Pierer - voices of civil society, such as WTO Director General-Designate Supachai Panitchpakdi and Transparency International's Tunku Abdul Aziz.

This book takes as its starting point the assertion that, contrary to public wisdom, Asia is on its way back, and that the Asian century has already begun. United by a common belief that the best principles of Asian business and governance have already begun to take root and develop within Asia's key institutions, whether corporate, governmental, or civil society. Most notably, the people leading those institutions are quietly, in their own ways, changing the way the region operates. In doing so, they are turning conventional wisdom around and proving that to know Asia, one has to look at the attitudes and aspirations of those who lead its key institutions.

From the Inside Flap

In this book, the reader will gain insights into one of the most dramatic economic and social transformations in the history of the world.

Lee Kuan Yew

I commend the contributors, editors and publishers for their efforts in bringing to wider attention the tremendous potential and opportunities in Asia. I look forward to our governments and businesses working together to realise these benefits.

John Howard
